Before redesigning anything, define what the website must help the business do: generate qualified inquiries, explain a complex offer, support recruiting, improve self-service, sell products, or create a stronger content engine.

Start with evidence, not preference

Separate deterministic work from judgment

Traditional automation is excellent when rules are clear. AI becomes useful when the workflow includes language, messy documents, classification, summarization, extraction, or retrieval. Many successful systems combine both.

Design for uncertainty

LLM output is probabilistic. High-impact actions should include validation, confidence thresholds, logging, or human approval instead of assuming every generated answer is correct.

Page builders are useful when speed of visual assembly is more important than a tightly controlled implementation. Custom themes are useful when the site needs distinctive behavior, structured content, predictable performance, or a design system that should not be rebuilt page by page.

Choose for the editing model

If editors need total layout freedom, a builder can be appropriate. If the team needs to update content safely inside predefined sections, structured fields can be easier to govern.

Consider long-term complexity

A builder can reduce initial coding but may create a large amount of page-level configuration. A custom theme requires more intentional development up front but can centralize component behavior.

Performance depends on implementation

Neither approach is automatically fast or slow. Asset strategy, plugins, hosting, media, third-party scripts, frontend code, and content choices all matter.

Use the simplest system that fits

The goal is not technical purity. Choose the approach that gives the organization the control it needs without creating unnecessary maintenance.
